With accidental injury being the leading cause of death for children in the U.S., it’s important for anyone involved with children to learn pediatric first aid and CPR. The first few moments following a medical emergency are by far the most critical, and if you’re the first or only one on the scene, knowing what to do when an emergency occurs can make all the difference. If you spend time caring for children, you’ll sleep a lot easier knowing that you’re prepared for the worst.

Infant dummy first aid demonstration series - First aid instructor showing how to position infant head before proceeding to mouth-to-mouth resuscitationSureFire CPR offers training and certification in pediatric first aid, including special instruction for adult, child, and infant CPR. Very young children are both especially vulnerable to potentially critical medical incidents and particular in their needs, so first response procedures have to be carefully tailored to suit them. The difference is acute enough that even those with a working knowledge of first aid as it applies to adults should take care to learn the pediatric first aid and CPR protocols.

New parents are especially   encouraged to gain all the knowledge and training they will need in cases of an emergency involving their children. Although most child care professionals are required by both law and best practices to retain up-to-date certification in infant CPR and CPR for children, many parents are not prepared in the same way. Our courses are designed to teach those with no healthcare experience what they need to know when an ailing child needs their help.

SureFire CPR’s pediatric first aid course is an all-in-one solution that includes training on the four key steps involved in medical crises: prevention, being safe, calling 9-1-1, and taking action. It’s intended as a strict protocol anyone can follow to ensure that children are safe in their care. In a hands-on learning environment taught by an expert currently working in the emergency medical field, students learn how to keep a child’s environment free of risk, how to act safely with children, and what exactly must be done if an emergency occurs.

The goal is that training will lead to confident action in the event of a medical crisis, and that no errors will occur that could further imperil the life or well-being of a child. To achieve this, students are given careful instruction on site in any of our multiple locations across Southern California in small class sizes. Training involves a one-to-one manikin-to-student ratio to ensure that everyone gets a chance to practice the skills they’ll be learning and develop the muscle memory they’ll need. Student participation is encouraged at all stages to make sure that those newly certified in pediatric first aid and CPR can use their skills with confidence if ever needed.
