Candy Lopez Saves Her Husband’s Life!
Here’s her story…
It was a typical Monday evening at my house in Anaheim. My husband, kids, and I were eating Hot Dogs for dinner. My son went to the garage to get a soda and the next thing I knew he was screaming for me to come quickly to help.
When I ran into the garage their was my husband red in the face and coughing as my son is hitting him in the back. My son looked at me with a panicked look on his face and said “He’s choking!” I immediately told him not to hit him in the back and looked at my husband and encouraged him to keep coughing.
He looked at me red-faced and said, “I can’t breathe!”
I replied, “If you can cough and talk, you can breathe.”
Very shortly after he stopped coughing at which point I tapped him on his arm and asked, “Are you ok?” to which he shook his head and looked at me like I was crazy. Then I asked, ” Do you need help?”
He shot me another “are you crazy” look and nodded furiously.
I asked, “Can I help you?” and he kept nodding. At this point I was standing behind him, holding my thumb up, and wrapping my hand over the other. I proceeded to give my husband then Heimlich. The hot dog flew out and my husband started breathing and coughing. The sense of calm I felt while the last few minutes had happened was gone and in its place was pure adrenaline. Not only had I just taken my CPR and first aid class a week before, but now i had used what I learned on one of my family members. I am so glad that I did.
My son graduated high school a couple of days after and both my husband and I were there thanks to my CPR class! Thank you SureFire CPR!
